Mega Man and Dr. Wily Make X-Play’s X-List of the Top 5 Hero/Villain Combos in Gaming
Posted on May 28th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

On a (somewhat) recent edition of G4TV’s X-Play, hosts Morgan Webb and Blair Herter counted down their top five hero/villain combinations in all of gaming, and on the list were Mega Man and his arch-nemesis, Dr. Wily:

There were one or two noticeable inaccuracies during the brief blurb they gave the Blue Bomber, and despite the high ranking (we we do think is cool), we doubt they care quite that much. But did you notice?

Inafune Responds to the Cancellation of Mega Man Universe, and the “Twisting” of His Concepts
Posted on May 27th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

By now, we all know that Mega Man Universe, a downloadable title initiated by former Capcom executive Keiji Inafune, was given the axe earlier this year.

Whether for or against it, many of those who followed the game felt that the project’s cancellation could perhaps be largely attributed to one factor more than any other: the departure of Inafune himself from the company developing it. With that in mind, some have felt a certain unease for the other pet project spearheaded by Inafune before leaving the company: Mega Man Legends 3, a title Inafune had fought long and hard to get approved.

Inafune has a firm belief in what the Japanese video game industry has to do to survive, which would seem to be one catalyst for his departure from Capcom. Now the head of his own video game development studio, Comcept, he spoke with 1UP on a variety of topics in a substantial five-page feature, in which he discusses business both old and new.

And on the note of old business, what with this being The Mega Man Network and all, we have posted here a few excerpts from the article in which he addresses the direction Capcom appears to be going with his former projects, including the ill-fated Mega Man Universe.

Breaking Out the Break Man Customs (Update)
Posted on May 26th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

As reported previously, the first volume of Hitoshi Ariga’s Mega Man Gigamix is now available from UDON Entertainment. What’s more, our previous report also included a few preview pages, including one showing off a rather striking image of Break Man, the alter-ego of everyone’s favorite scarf-wearing ‘bot, Proto Man.

And as we’ve seen recently, Dr. Light‘s prototype has received his fair share of model kits and action figures, but short of an alternate head for the Kubrick Proto Man, “Break Man” has rarely– if ever– been seen in plastic.

That has done little to stop collector Jin Saotome Nagano Ken, however. In fact, it seems to have only served to fire him up, as he has taken one of Kotobukiya’s Proto Man figures, and customized it into the spitting image of Ariga’s Break Man. Check it out:

You can find even more images here, courtesy of Protodude’s Rockman Corner.

Figure variants are not at all uncommon in Japan’s toy market; one can only hope we might see a figure like this released before long. Ken has shown you how it’s done, Kotobukiya: the ball is in your court, now.

Edit: It has come to our attention that the custom figure above has been incorrectly attributed to Jin Saotome; apparently, the creator is actually one Nagano Ken, whose website (with more pics of the figure) can be seen here. We sincerely regret and apologize for the error, and thank Auto for bringing it to our attention.

The TMMN Megacast #9 – Grega Man Legends
Posted on May 24th, 2011 by Heat Man

The Megacast is back at ya for another month! And this time we have an all new esteemed guest to speak to, Greg “Grega Man” Moore. He’s the guy at Capcom Unity who toils endlessly to make sure your Mega Man Legends 3 dreams come true. But he managed to find a spot of time to come on and talk with us a bit, and regaled us with his wonderful adventure of joining Capcom and proving his Mega Man cred. He also stuck around while we got into a bit about Reaverbot appreciation. Unfortunately he couldn’t stick around for the whole show; his body just couldn’t take it yet, but maybe someday. Plus his Data Dance was giving us all motion sickness.

The later half of the show is pretty much dominated by our Game Club segment, which covers Mega Man Legends this month. Yep, as you guessed this is a pretty much an entirely Legends themed show. Except for many the musical break, which is classic Mega Man medley by none other than Grega Man himself, from his life-in-the-fast-line high school band days. Bet you didn’t know the guy was so talented. Incidentally, you can find the full track here. Enjoy the show!

Rockman Online Introduces the Sky Fortress “Atlas”
Posted on May 24th, 2011 by Heat Man

Been a bit of time since we’ve heard about Rockman Online, but the official blog finally has a new location update. This time we’re introduced to the floating fortress named Atlas. As the wars between the UCA and URA have spread across the world, it’s become necessary to gain ground in the sky as well. This establishment belongs to the UCA, and is their biggest military installment next to the base on Gaia. Designed by Dr. Gaudille, it’s made from a powerful Force Metal frame and has the latest Force Metal engine installed. Despite its size it has impressive speed, and can even self-repair basic damage it endures. The facility is also used for charging up and maintaining dozens of large battleships.

The overwhelming power of Atlas serves as a symbol of the UCA’s might over the URA. However, recently URA attacks have gotten more aggressive, and the state of affairs is growing worrisome. Scientists saw to completely safeguard Atlas’ AI system from all viruses, but there are uncertainties surrounding entering URA controlled territories, where the level of virus contamination is highly serious. With intel pointing to a planned URA invasion on the fortress, it’s possible Atlas could serve as a battlefield at some point. (Of course, as far as the actual is concerned, this is a guarantee!)

Thanks for the tip, HeatPhoenix! Now please stop commenting about Rockman Online in unrelated posts! :)

Returning Reaverbots to Haunt You in MML3
Posted on May 23rd, 2011 by Heat Man

After polling the Japan and Western devrooms for the Reaverbots people would like to see return in Mega Man Legends 3, the results are in. Coming in top is Gorbesh, the infamous , Joe-esque shield and gun Reaverbot. Following that is Mimic, the classic trap treasure box, Filshdot, the sonic wave emitting fish Reaverbot, and Poh, the strange, mummy-like Reaverbot that transforms into a frightening beast.

Additionally, two more were selected based on strong user comments. The first is Arukoitan, the remote controlled bipedal Reaverbot (which would lead me to think Ordakoitan is returning as well). The other is Mandomantal, the large and friendly ray fish Reaverbot.

So what do you think of the turn out? Personally I’m pretty stoked, three of my top picks made it! Mandomantal is definitely the shocker though. While certainly a cool Reaverbot, I’m not crazy about having more underwater ruins in Legends, unless they have some type of improvement.

MML3 Prototype Contest Update: Extension Granted
Posted on May 22nd, 2011 by Heat Man

Just a quick update. As discussed yesterday, we’re moving the contest deadline to June 14th, midnight PST. Truthfully we were more or less set on this, and most of you who commented appeared to be for it. We do apologize if this inconveniences anyone entering. I think looking at the bigger picture, however, the whole point of this is to drum up support for Legends 3, and more time ought give more people the opportunity to develop a promotion. So thank you for understanding, and keep at it! Especially with the dismal news of a delay of the Prototype Version, now more than ever keeping excitement going is important.

Mega Man #5 Solicitation Answers One Question on Everyone’s Mind
Posted on May 22nd, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

The first issue of Archie’s new Mega Man comic has only just come out, and yet we now have a preview of what’s to come after the inaugural story arc “Let the Games Begin!”

Two new covers have been revealed, apparently continuing the “Villain Variant” theme introduced with Mega Man #2. This variant will be drawn by none other than Patrick Spaziante, though with this issue, he departs from his duties working on the interior page art (at least, for the time being– want him back? Mail Archie with your demands!). Taking up the pen for this story will be none other than Chad Thomas, whose work you might already be acquainted with through the book’s concept art and the first issue’s sketch variant cover.

Meanwhile, the regular version is a special painted cover from Greg Horn, whose art you may have seen around (even if you weren’t aware of the name).

All of this surrounds a story which kicks off a brand new arc following the first four-issue adventure. What should you expect? Read on to see the covers and find out! Meanwhile, thanks to Sockie for the update!

A Taste of ASIAGRAPH’s Rockman Exhibit
Posted on May 22nd, 2011 by Heat Man

Back in February, it was announced that the ASIAGRAPH group would be featuring Rockman for an upcoming exhibit. Digital artists from all around Asia were invited to submit their work fir display and a chance to win prizes. Although the main exhibit isn’t planned until October, a kick off event was recently held at Cafe ASAN displaying some of the works received from the first round of submissions.

Along with the exhibit, speeches were given by members from ASIAGRAPH, Comic Toranoana (who is also sponsoring the event) and Capcom. Also, Ucchy-san was on hand give out special Rockman DASH 3 poster cards. You can check out more photos from 4Gamer.net’s report, which certainly shows a wide variety of styles and themes. What do you think of these initial pieces?

MML3 Prototype Contest Update: Considering an Extension
Posted on May 21st, 2011 by Heat Man

Hey there folks. I don’t have so much of a supercharged update for you this week, but more of a serious query. In light of the indefinite delay of Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version, we have been considering extending the entry period for our contest. There’s no real great reason for us to end it sooner, aside from all these awesome prizes just sitting back here and tempting me. Personally though, I would prefer if we got the goods out before the game launches. That way there’s no tortuous period of waiting for the 3DS to arrive while everyone else is enjoying the game. Of course, the delay could be as little as a week or as much as months for all we know.

I think most of you would probably want an extension, especially those still considering entering yet. Then again, those of you who started right away will have to consider how much more time you can keep momentum going in your activities. We are considering an extension of two weeks right now, which would bring the deadline to June 14th, Tuesday. It’s also possible we may grant a second extension depending on whether or not Capcom announces a new launch date in that time. Also, for personal reasons, it’s best if I get the prizes sent out by August, though I don’t imagine the contest running that long.

Comment or e-mail us if you have any suggestions for the matter. Otherwise the two week extension is the most likely scenario. I’ll post tomorrow with the decision. Thanks everyone!

The Mega Man Legends 3 Project Devroom Wants YOUR Ideas for New Content!
Posted on May 20th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

Over at the Mega Man Legends 3 Project Devroom, Kinako has made an update pertaining to the news regarding the Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version delay we reported on just earlier. She notes that “The nature of games development is that sudden changes are prone to occur at any time, one after another,” adding that “to make you all wait even longer for this game is an incredibly regrettable outcome that all of us are sorry for.”

Nonetheless, she notes that she and the rest of the development team are still as dedicated as ever to ensuring the success of the Mega Man Legends 3 Project, and that regarding Devroom activity, “we will be delaying the posting of Prototype Version-related content so that its timing remains in sync with the release of the game.” Even so, they are planning to introduce more new content to make the Devroom even more active than it already is.

Perhaps the most noteworthy part, however, is where she concludes by saying that “we are very open to ideas for content from you in the Devroom. Even if its an idea that would require the help and resources of the dev team, please let us know!” Dev Room Community Liaison Greg adds “If you’ve got a cool idea for Devroom content, shoot me a PM and I’ll relay that bad-boy along.”

You heard the man! Servengers, assemble!

It’s the End of the World
Posted on May 20th, 2011 by LBD "Nytetrayn"

Okay, so maybe it’s not the end of the world, but Mega Man Legends fans may treat it that way just the same after they catch wind of today’s news. It seems that no Legends title is safe, whether they’ve been released or not.

First, there is the matter of a PlayStation Network re-release of the original Mega Man Legends game (and possibly its sequel). In short: not happening.

Vice President Christian Svensson explains why in this week’s “Ask Capcom” Q&A.

Mega Man Gets Delicious
Posted on May 20th, 2011 by Heat Man

This may look like just an ordinary statue of Mega Man. But this sculpture by Toni Spaziani is, in fact, made out of chocolate. That’s right, you could take a big, tasty bite out of it! Well, providing it’s not coated in some kind of special lacquer or preservative. I have no idea how people make things out of food at have them stand up so well, but it’s pretty amazing.

Tony mentions on his DA page that he’s presently working as a sculpting artist on the show Cake Boss. Capcom, you need to jump in on this action! I want to see a big, fancy Mega Man cake!

MML3 Devroom: MegaMan Design Round 2 – FIGHT!
Posted on May 19th, 2011 by Heat Man

Or, VOTE! rather. MegaMan’s fashion crisis continues on and it’s up to us to resolve things. However, given the results of the last poll, backers of designs B and C were pretty close. So those designs have been redefined in the new D and E designs, which have taken into account user feedback as well as analysis over MegaMan’s appearance in the game. What’s interesting to note is that the new designs have been made with the idea that the game will appeal to an older audience. I wonder if that mindset is going into other aspects as well, like the story? Also, some particular advice to keep in mind before you vote:

As a bit of advice, or perhaps a request, I hope that you’ll see these designs for what they are, and not get hung up on how the designs have changed since the previous poll. Try to forget about the previous round and just focus on what’s before your eyes now when you make your judgment. What impressions do they leave on you? What do you like or dislike?

So this will be the deciding factor. D or E, the result of this is what we play! Decide what you like and make your voice heard! You have until next Thursday, the 26th, 6PM PST. Aside from that, you can also check out the article for some insight into Roll’s new design.
